Fall Units

In P.E., there are certain activities that we try to do at certain times of the year.  As the weather starts to get chilly outside, we want to make sure that our units keep us active and help to keep us warm.  We do try to go outside as often as possible, so students who are affected by asthma and allergies should be prepared.

General Games

At the beginning of the school year, it takes us a little bit of time to get started and into our units.  Policies and procedures often take some time to go through and learn.  During this time, we often play some general games to not only talk about policies and procedures, but to also get some activity in as well.   Some of these games include tag games, follow the directions games, games that require teamwork, and thinking games.  These usually do not fall under the categories of our main units of study.

J.A.W.S. program  (i.e. our running program)

J.A.W.S. stands for Jog and Walk Stars.  In this program, students are required to do a set number of laps during the class period.  We often start out low, and work our way up to a mile, which is five laps around our field.  Students are not required to run the whole way, but are asked to run a little bit.  They actually get to choose if they want to run or walk.  All we ask is that they try their best and get the laps finished.  Some students that finish their required number of laps also choose to keep going and do extra.  We have had some students run up to 2 miles during a class period.  It is quite impressive.

Frisbee/Football/Soccer

Our fall units consist of frisbee, football and soccer.  We learn how to throw and catch during these units.  We also learn about offense and defense and the basic premise of games in each unit.  For Frisbee, we play games such as 6 thrower frisbee and The Bucket game.  For football, the favorite is 12 Ball Football.  We also try our hand at a tag game of football.  Soccer, we can play a similar game of 12 Ball Soccer and play regular but smaller games.  We can also play indoors if the weather does not cooperate.
